Project 4 Proposal

Once you have chosen a possible discourse community to examine for Project 4, write a 2-page proposal detailing your preliminary ideas and plan for the final paper. What you write in the proposal will probably change to some degree in the final paper, but it should at least help you get started and allow me to give you some feedback before you write the final paper.

Your Proposal Should:
·      Explain which discourse community you will be examining with some details about that discourse community. Describe what you know about that discourse community, whether or not you are a member of that community, etc.

·      Explain why it might be useful to analyze that community. What do you hope to learn about discourse communities overall by examining this specific one? Can you add/modify one of the other scholars' claims about discourse communities? What can you add to the conversation?

·      Identify three sources you plan to use in the final paper and how you will use them. These sources should be from WAW. Certainly you'll want to use Gee's 6 characteristics, but what other concepts/characteristics of the discourse community described by other scholars will you explore/use? The idea is that you will add something new to these concepts by examining your specific community.
